Build practical empathy skills to listen better, lead with care, communicate clearly, and strengthen workplace relationships.
A colleague has been off their game for three weeks. You have noticed. You have not said anything, because you do not know what to say that would not come out awkward or intrusive — so you say nothing, and the distance grows. Most people at work are in that position regularly. In the course Everyday Empathy at Work you learn what to look for, what to say, and where the line sits between supporting someone and taking on their problem.
Empathy is usually treated as a trait you either have or lack. It is much closer to a practical skill with recognisable moves: specific phrases, specific questions, specific things to notice. This course teaches those moves.
Teams where people feel understood raise the difficult thing earlier, admit mistakes sooner, and stay longer. Teams where they do not lose their best people quietly and expensively, usually to a manager somewhere else who asked one more question. The research on this is not ambiguous, and the course goes directly to what Catalyst and Ernst & Young found when they measured it.
The mistake in the other direction matters just as much. Empathy without follow-through is theatre, empathy without boundaries burns you out, and some people will take advantage of it. Doing this well means knowing when to lean in and when not to.
Six sections take you from what empathy actually is — including where it differs from sympathy and compassion — through the mindsets and phrases that make it visible, into leadership and meetings, then into the hardest situations at work, and finally into listening and into sales and client relationships.
Across the course you learn to:
The Catalyst study and Ernst & Young’s research give you the evidence to make the case internally, and a checklist of empathy steps gives you something concrete to work from on an ordinary Tuesday.
Around forty-five short video lessons across six sections, all online in the Soofos learning environment, at your own pace. Your instructor is Alex Genadinik, who has taught business and communication skills online for more than a decade and takes a practical, results-focused approach: usable phrases, realistic workplace scenes, and research where it earns its place.
No background in psychology is needed. Everything is explained from the ground up and immediately attached to a situation you would recognise from your own week.
The skills transfer directly outside work, without much translation. Most people find they use them at home before they use them in a meeting.
After this course you can notice what a colleague is not saying, open the conversation without making it awkward, respond to real hardship in a way that helps, hold accountability without blame, and keep enough distance to stay useful.
